Association for International Affairs in cooperation with Czech Railways arrange touring exhibition of photos from Afghanistan. In each city is the exhibition accompanied by open public discussion on the theme: 'How and why to help to Afghanistan?' As first was the exhibition and discussion launched in Prague in Governmental Room on Capital Railstation.

In this nontraditional place with long history we could meet these panelists:

- Ester Lauferová, coordinator of Province-Reconstruction Team of the Czech Republic, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Czech Republic,
- Sabina Středová, security expert, Ministry of Defence, Czech Republic,
- Mjr. Karel Kout, Armed Forces of Czech Republic,
- Sultan Sarwar, correspondent of Afghan section of Radio Free Europe in Prague,

In the first part we heard the speeches of panelists. The main topics were:

- general security and political situation in Afghanistan with special reflection on the situation in Lógar, the province where Czech Recunstruction Team is operating,
- introduction to the composition of the Team and its daily work,
- Mjr. Kout introduced to us the main characteristics and aspects of the work of soldiers in the field operating by the side of civil experts,
- conclusion was made by Mr. Sarwar, who have recently come back from the traveling across his homeland, and he showed us the view from the Afghan population side.

After the speech part followed the open discussion. Not every question could be answered due to the timeline of whole discussion. The majority of questions was concerning these points:

- analyze of the new strategy for Afghanistan of general McChrystal, who has recently become new leader of American troops in Afghanistan,
- prediction of the development of political situation in the country (in the answer was expressed the value that in Afghanistan we could not talk about massive civil disorders as it was in Iran),
- possibility of future cooperation of PR team with locals with lower military protection, which would allowed the experts to get closer to local people and accelerate the projects realization.

15th International Book Fair and Literary Festival - BOOK WORLD Prague 2009

National Network:
Czech Republic

14th - 17th May 2009, Industrial Palace, Prague
Holešovice Exhibition Grounds
Focus: 27 from 27 / Europe in Literature - Literature in Europe

Czech network of Anna Lindh Foundation participated on the 15th International Book Fair in Prague. This year was important not only for its jubilee but also for the status of Official Event of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU. This was very important factor for us in the decision making process if we will participate or not. Second important factor was the interest of three of our member to participate on this event. Unfortunately they were not able to pay for their own bookstall. We asked the Secretariat of ALF for permission to remove the financial resources within the budget items and we succeeded with this request. Thanks to these financial resources we were able to promote to our members the participation on the Book fair. The request for participation from our members was based on the past experience of one of our member with this activity. Czech-Arab Society considered this participation as very fruitful and they had big success with their books and bulletins.

As part of the literary festival writers from countries of the European Union will be invited to the fair, where they will introduce their work and take part in discussions about life in a united Europe, questions of identity and diversity in European literatures, and recent trends in the literature of Europe. But the Fair has many other themes as:

Cities in 1989 - programmes dedicated to cities which played a key role in the overthrow of communist regimes (Berlin, Bratislava, Budapest, Prague, Sofia, Warsaw)
Imagination and Creativity - exhibitions of books, programmes with author participation, discussions, films, book presentations
Literature and Education - a forum for the presentation of projects in education, campaigns in support of reading and education, the activities of the presses of universities and academic institutions
Cooking with the Book - programme to support an exhibition of cook- and recipe-books; with practical gastronomic samples and the participation of some interesting guests
BookWorld in Film - film adaptations of works of literature - Ponrepo cinema, Atlas, cinema at exhibition grounds
BookWorld on the Stage - in cooperation with theatres throughout the Czech Republic.

We appreciate the opportunity to meet foreign guests and representatives from organizations that could be partners for our members. This Fair is very well known in the Czech Republic and we consider this as a great opportunity to present ALF in general and work of our members. We have to say that we distributed 200ks of our Bulletins that we issued this spring. That give us a prove that we made a big step forward in the propagation of ALF. Our member Arabesque also sold the book they created (mainly children literature and short stories from Arab artists). So this activity brought not only the financial profit but mainly the propagation and visible presence of Anna Lindh Foundation in our country.

Akce – prosinec 2008

Kulatý stůl, 11.12.2008

Dne 11.12.2008 organizovalo centrum ALF pro Českou republiku v prostorách Ústavu mezinárodních vztahů kulatý stůl českých předních arabistů a iráckého kaligrafika a umělce Mistrem Mohammedem Saggarem.

Více o životě i pracovních úspěších mistra Saggara naleznete v přiloženém dokumentu.

A concert by the musician Mister Aleph, organized by the Lebanese Club in the Czech Republic in cooperation with the Czech-Arab Society and under the patronage of the deputy mayor of Prague Ing. M. Kousalíková.
When: Wednesday, 2008-11-19, 7 pm
Where: The music hall of the Conservatory of Jan Dejl, Maltézské náměstí 14, Prague 1 – Malá Strana,
Free entrance

Mister Aleph was accompanied by two other musicians, and together, they introduced to the audience traditional Lebanese music and its mix with Cuban, Spanish and French music. The atmosphere was friendly and open. Due to the great interest of the public, there were not enough places to sit, so the coordinators had to bring in extra chairs during the concert. A great dignity was added to the atmosphere by the beautiful surroundings of the concert hall of the Conservatory of Jan Dejl. It was a great opportunity to meet our colleagues from the Czech national network and to meet new people from the Mediterranean area. We believe that it was a beautiful night for everybody concerned, and we are looking forward to other activities organized by our members.
