Article 1 – The Award

The Anna Lindh Foundation and Fondazione Mediterraneo established the Euro-Mediterranean Award for the Dialogue Between Cultures, following the decision of the Heads of National Network taken at the Meeting of Heads of National Networks held in Barcelona, on 27 November 2005.

The Award is dedicated to a specific theme each year, which will be chosen in accordance with the Barcelona Declaration principles and the mission of the Foundation. For 2010 Edition, the Award theme is Intercultural Dialogue for Ecological Sustainability.

The following bodies will be in charge of all arrangements of the Award: the ALF Secretariat, the Presidency of the Jury, the Heads of Anna Lindh Foundation National Networks, and the members of the network in the 43 countries.

Article 2 – Presidency of the Jury

For the 2010 edition, the presidency of the Jury consists of:

  • Heads of Network of the following countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Spain (EU countries) and Mauritania, Israel and Tunisia (Mediterranean partner countries).
  • Executive Director of the Anna Lindh Foundation
  • President of Fondazione Mediterraneo (co-organizer of the Award)

The Presidency of the Jury shall have the following tasks:

  • Choosing the annual theme of the Award;
  • Participation in the pre-selection of the short-list of 5 finalists.

Article 3 – The Jury for Pre-selection of the Finalists

  • The Jury is composed of the 43 Heads of Anna Lindh Foundation National Networks.
  • The Jury selects each year the five finalists for the final selection of the winner by the members through online voting.

Article 4 – National Networks

  • The 43 Heads of Network will select the shortlist of 5 finalists for the final vote taking place among the national network members.
  • The nominations for the Award must be made by members of Anna Lindh Foundation National Networks.
  • Following the selection of the 5 finalists by the Heads of Network, the National Network members will participate in the final voting for the winner. The candidate who gets the majority of votes within a National Network, s/he will be considered the candidate of this respective network.

Article 5 – Nomination and Winner Election

Procedures of nomination of candidates and election of winners will take place as follows:

  • The Presidency of the Jury will choose the theme of the year before March 1 (for the 2010 edition, the theme was chosen in November 2009 during the meeting of the Presidency in Göteborg in the framework of the VIII Heads of Network Meeting).
  • The Anna Lindh Foundation Secretariat will launch the nomination for the Award by the end of March – beginning of April. The nomination should be submitted online at the special page of the Award on the ALF website.
  • Members of national networks shall nominate candidates by May 20.
  • Based on the nomination proposals addressed by members of the National Networks, the Heads of Network shall prepare a short list of a maximum of 5 candidates by June 1.
  • The members of National Network will participate in the online voting for the Winner by June 15.
  • The candidate who is most voted for by the members will receive the Award. The winner will be announced before June 30.

Article 6 – Criteria for the Nomination of Candidates

  • Candidates of the Award must be a resident in or holder of the nationality of one of the member countries of the Euro-Med Partnership, or of its observer countries: Libya and Sudan. (see list of countries under nomination page)
  • Eligible nominations must include a CV of the candidate (3 pages max). The résumé should highlight the most recent achievements of the candidate over the last 3 years. Moreover, a sample of the candidate’s work (project or activity description summary max. 3 pages) for evaluation.
  • Candidates can be an individual, an organization, or a representative of an organization.
  • A nomination can be jointly presented by several members of national networks.
  • Winners of previous editions of awards granted by Fondazione Mediterraneo cannot be proposed as candidates.

Article 7 – Criteria for the Pre-Selection of Candidates

  • The short-list (up to 5 pre-selected candidates) will be chosen on the basis of the number of preferences obtained by the 43 Heads of National Network, taking into account the number of countries from which preferences have been expressed.
  • As youth, women and migrants are the key target groups of the Foundation’s scope of work, special attention will be given to candidates who have actively worked or implement projects with these groups.

Article 8 – The Prize

The prize does not consist of a financial contribution. The winner shall receive an honourable trophy at the bestowing ceremony, and s/he shall participate in at least two National Network events, one of them taking place in a Southern Mediterranean country.

Article 9 – Awarding Ceremony

The Awarding Ceremony will take place each year, in the course of the second semester. In addition, the winner (or winners in case of equal scoring) will be invited to the annual Heads of Networks Meeting.
