While in Europe there is a growing understanding and exploration of Mediterranean identity, in North America the knowledge of the region's culture and identity is limited and Mediterranean culture remains under- or mis-represented. We propose a festival of MEditerranean performing arts in NYC- one of the world's largest cultural and intellectual centers-in order to promote the vibrancy and diversity of contemporary Med. culture and generate productive debate on the present and future of Med. identity.
