From 9 to 10 October 2010, a training will be organized in Cairo to challenge consumerist lifestyles  in the Mediterranean and inspire responsible consumption.

The training is addressed to all those involved with education and youth issues in the formal or non‐formal way, such as teacher of primary and secondary level, youth leaders, staff of museums and NGOs carrying out educational programs.

The event, which is financed by the Anna Lindh Foundation in the framework of its Call for Proposal, is organized by the Arab Office for Youth & Environment in collaboration with the Mediterranean Information Office for Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development.

“Youth X Change” is a worldwide UNESCO/UNEP initiative that addresses production and consumption patterns, particularly of young people. Part of this initiative is the 84p guide book addressed to youth that has been translated in 19 languages and is promoted in many countries.

“Youth X Change in the Mediterranean” is a project aiming for the Mediterranean adaptation of the global initiative. Specifically through this project the guide book has been adjusted to the region realities and lifestyles and translated to Arabic language. It contains updated case studies appealing to young people from the region. It can be used by educators, youth leaders, NGO staff etc. that wish to inspire a new consumption ethic to their target audiences, in line with the principles of sustainable development. The guide is being promoted via a series of launching events in the Arab speaking partner countries (Jordan, Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria,) combined with experiential training seminars, where experienced trainers demonstrate how educators can apply the kit in a formal and non formal setting.
