Winners of the Anna Lindh Journalist Award 2010 to be announced in Monaco

Renowned sociologist Edgar Morin heads the International Jury, with competing finalists from Portugal, Egypt, Romania, Greece, France, Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Belgium and the United Kingdom.

Journalists from across the Euro-Mediterranean region will gather in Monte-Carlo at 18.30 on Thursday evening (14th October 2010) for the prestigious prize-giving ceremony of the Anna Lindh Mediterranean Journalist Award 2010.

The ceremony, which be opened by Prince Albert II of Monaco, will feature the official announcement by the International Jury of the selected winners of this year’s Journalist Award in the categories of  ‘Press’, ‘Audiovisual’, ‘Online Media’ and ‘Cultural Heritage’.

In total there are twelve finalists for the Jury to choose from, with represented countries including Portugal, Egypt, Romania, Greece, France Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Belgium and the United Kingdom.

The Jury is headed this year by French sociologist Edgar Morin and presided over by André Azoulay, the Anna Lindh Foundation’s President, with voting members including: Abdel-Rahman Al-Rashed, General Manager of Al-Arabiya Television; Juan Luis Cebrian, Founded of Spain’s El Pais newspaper; David Gardner, Foreign Affairs editor for the Financial Times; Alessandra Paradisi, Secretary General of the COPEAM Mediterranean Audio-visual Network; Rana Sabbagh, Executive Director of the Jordanian-based Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism; Hala Hashish, Head of Egypt’s Nile Television Network; and Gardenia Trezzini, Editor-in-chief for Euronews Television. 

The winners of the individual prizes will receive a financial award and an opportunity to take part in media activities organized across the 43 countries of the Union for the Mediterranean by the Anna Lindh Foundation and its region-wide Network of civil society organizations and institutions.

The Anna Lindh Journalist Award, now in its fourth edition, is the Region’s leading prize for media reporting across cultures and on issues of cultural diversity, and is supported by partners including the Anna Lindh Foundation, COPEAM, the European Commission, the UN Alliance of Civilizations and the Monaco Mediterranean Foundation.
