Taking place from the 5th to 6th November 2010, the first ‘Translation in the Mediterranean’ initiative was organized by the Anna Lindh Foundation in partnership with Transeuropéennes and Literature Across Frontiers. Hosted at the Swedish Institute in Alexandria, the workshop brought together experts and representatives of institutions working on translation across the Euro-Mediterranean region, with the aim of establishing the status of translation today in the region and developing new initiatives in this field of work.
Through the initiative, 54 studies were brought together, covering a range of languages, including German, Arab, Spanish, French, Italian and Turkish, with a view to also engage from 2011 works in Scandinavian, Greek, Hebrew, Dutch and Portuguese. Building on the recommendations of the seminar, the Foundation intends to programme work for the promotion of translation into its next operational phase, from 2011 to 2014.
