Over 40 young Euromed sports leaders to gather this week in the village of Agros in Cyprus to promote peace and coexistence through sports training and youth work.

From 26 to 31 July, an international peace through sport training titled “Anatomy of Peace Training”, will bring together  young Euromed participants from the Middle East, Bulgaria, Morocco, Ireland and Cyprus in addition to America and South Africa to learn and exchange knowledge in a multicultural environment  on how to incorporate peace building, tolerance and conflict resolution skills through sports training and youth work.

The training, which is funded by the Anna Lindh Foundation in the framework of its Call for Proposals, will be hosted by Peace Player Cyprus and is organized with the support of Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and the Arbinger Institute.

Speaking ahead of the one week Peace Training, Marina Vasilara, Managing Director of PeacePlayers-Cyprus says:“This training will help develop a basketball practice curriculum that communicates the ideas of peace and understanding. In addition, the training will help creating a network of organizations with similar missions which can continue to work together on how  to better use sport to promote respect and peace between different communities.”.

The 2010 PeacePlayers International Anatomy of Peace Training will focus on ways to coach basketball to children while incorporating principals that aim to foster peace building and understanding through sports. Participants of the training will be members from PeacePlayers International in Washington DC, Northern Ireland, the Middle East, South Africa and Cyprus, along with certified Anatomy of Peace trainer Chad Ford, and several members from three other organizations using sport to effect social change: the Moroccan Association of Sister Cities International, the Primary School of Saints Cyril and Methodius (in Bulgaria), and Insaka–Ireland (Sport Against Racism).
