Rabat - The 2010 Report of the Anna Lindh Foundation offers a realistic and credible alternative to the theory of clash of civilizations, said, on Friday in Rabat, HM King Mohammed VI's advisor and chairman of the Foundation at the presentation of the results of this Report on cross-cultural trends in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

"I firmly believe that for all those, governments, civil societies and institutions, which for decades dreamed of a big night of the Union on both sides of the Mediterranean, there will be a before and after the roadmap that the Anna Lindh Foundation with its report has just drawn in this inspiring prospect," Andre Azoulay said.

For decades, the Mediterranean region (...) has suffered assaults and indignations of those who wanted to give a religious and cultural dimension to political tragedies facing our region, the Middle East and elsewhere, which require political responses, he added.

"True to the roadmap that has been drawn at the outset and consistent with the goals we set ourselves in our 2008-2011 three-year plan, the Anna Lindh Foundation can offer with this Report an alternative scenario, credible and realistic, as a counterpoint to regressive theories of clash of civilizations, the cultural divide, or confrontation of religions,” Azoulay noted.

Carried out in collaboration with the Gallup Institute on a sample of 13,000 inhabitants from thirteen European countries and the south-eastern Mediterranean region, the Report aims to reduce the gap that has widened in the mutual perceptions between the populations living both shores of the Mediterranean and better understand the challenges facing the Euro-Mediterranean region.

The Anna Lindh Foundation was established in 2005 with the aim of improving relations between the populations of both shores of the Mediterranean, enhance mutual respect between cultures and support civil society working for a common future in the Region.
