From 25 April to 1 May, representatives of the Israeli-Palestinian social movement Combatants for Peace, which was nominated winner of the Anna Lindh Euromed Award for Dialogue 2009, will be visiting Prague and Bratislava.
During the visit, Combatants for Peace will meet with civil society activists, university students as well as local authorities to share their grass-root experiences in the field of peace and coexistence.
Various joint actions are held by the movement, in which Palestinians and Israelis work hand in hand towards resolving the ongoing conflict and restoring trust. Such actions include helping Palestinian farmers in olive harvests, assistance in re-building houses, awareness campaigns and public actions against separation between people.
The visit to Prague, which starts on 25 April, is part of the winners regional tour including their involvement in activities organized by the Anna Lindh National Networks. Over the last weeks, Combatants for Peace had the opportunity to meet with audiences in France, Finland and Spain.
It will be followed by a visit to Bratislava from 28 April to 1 May, during which the winners will participate in the Slovak Network Common Operation which gathers members from 4 regional Networks including Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Austria. On 29 April, Sulaiman Katib from Palestine and Avi Yehoudai from Israel will speak at the international seminar “People in Dialogue”, sharing their experience with a wide public in the Capital of Slovakia.
The Euro-Med Dialogue Award is an annual prize, organized by the Anna Lindh Foundation and Fondazione Mediterraneo in recognition of the achievements of institutions and individuals working for the promotion of intercultural understanding, with a thematic focus announced each year.This year edition of the Award, will be on the theme “Intercultural Dialogue for Ecological Sustainability” based on the importance the environment represents to many civil society organizations working across the Mediterranean.
