The premiere of the film "Articulating Values: On Stage at EuroMed" will take place on 17 March 2011, in Topkino, Vienna. The film documents a cross-border theater project granted by the Anna Lindh Foundation and shows how people from different countries communicate on sensitive issues such as values, respect, migration and discrimination by using the "Theater" as an instrument.
“Everyone is an artist."
50 youngsters, teachers and youth workers from eight different countries - Austria, Denmark, Hungary, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, the Netherlands and Turkey - entered the stage together in April 2010. The event was part of the project "Articulating Values - Young people act in EuroMed", which is coordinated by Interkulturelles Zentrum (Vienna) and funded by the Anna Lindh Foundation, the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education the Arts and Culture, the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs and others. The project´s aim is to enable encounters between people of different social and cultural backgrounds and promote equal dialogue.
Staging the Project
The film documents the five days of the international training, in which the young actors get involved with each other and the unusual methods of Boal and the Theater of the Oppressed. They jointly develop and design short theatrical scenes out of their personal concerns and issues which stimulate reflection and engagement with their own prejudices, worldviews and personal moral values. Their theater performance revolves around themes such as respect, migration and discrimination. Everyone has a story worth being told – but if the spectators join in, everything might suddenly take a completely different turn.
Pages for Peace
The project incorporated also a literary involvement with the topic: instead of negative headlines, positive stories should emerge about (the) foreign and strange. The students wrote the so-called "Pages for Peace". Before the screening of the film, Milena Wendt and Patrick Meerwald from the Rudolf Steiner School Wien-Mauer will read their personal "Pages for Peace ".
