The President of the Anna Lindh Foundation, André Azoulay, during his visit to Cairo was received for a working session on Saturday 18 July by M. Ahmed Abou el-Gheit, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
After highlighting the quality and the continuity of support provided by Egypt to the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation, A. Azoulay , who was accompanied by the Executive Director, Andreu Claret, underlined the “significant and symbolic character of the Egyptian co-presidency of the Union for the Mediterranean”. It is a co-presidency that carries, according to A. Azoulay, “all the promises and all the hopes of building tomorrow a Euro-Mediterranean space based on parity, co-responsibility and reciprocity”.
After presenting the actions implemented by the Anna Lindh Foundation during the first year of the Union for the Mediterranean, M. Azoulay presented the action plan of the Foundation for the second semester and the coming year.
The President of the Foundation underlined the “central role and the responsibility of the civil society in the process of retaking and consolidating the common destiny on both sides of the Mediterranean”.
From his side, M. Abou el-Gheit congratulated the renewal and dynamism that currently characterizes the approach of the Anna Lindh Foundation, an institution which is a founding signatory of the Union for the Mediterranean. In this regard, M. Abou el-Gheit reaffirmed the support and availability of his country to give the full possibility of success to the triennial work-plan (2009-2011) designed and being implemented by the Anna Lindh Foundation.
This audience was preceded by a long working session held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with M. Said Hindam, Egyptian Ambassador in charge of the Union for the Mediterranean and member of the Anna Lindh Foundation’s Board of Governors.
