Education Seminar in Cairo

On 15th and 16th December, in the Egyptian capital of Cairo, the Anna Lindh Foundation is organising the seminar ‘Education and Intercultural Learning’.

Taking place at the premises of the European Union Delegation to Egypt, the main aim of the seminar is to gather the organizations, experts who have worked with the Foundation in the field of education and the representatives of the current programmes granted by the ALF to make an overall assessment of the activities implemented so far and to discuss about future programmes taking into consideration and building also on existing initiatives and tools.

The seminar’s discussions will be structured around three main axes: Mediterranean shared values and family values, tools to learn about cultural diversity, and schools, cities and community participation for intercultural dialogue. The first morning will be devoted to the issue of value education in schools with a presentation of the main results and recommendations of the Anna Lindh Report 2010 (www.annalindhreport.org) in this respect and the intervention of some of the participants on the topic. The afternoon of 15 December will focus more on tools for intercultural learning and in this regard we envisage the presentation and discussion around some of the tools developed or funded by the ALF such as its manual on education and religious diversity, the Anna Lindh teacher training programme, the work done on the revision of history textbooks in collaboration with the Arab League, Isesco, Alesco, Unesco and Swedish Institute. The morning of the second day will be devoted to the broader topic of intercultural learning involving schools but also the community around the school at large, exploring good practices in the field and envisaging future cooperation, while the final afternoon of 16 will be devoted to the elaboration of some main conclusions from the meeting.
