From the 2nd to the 3rd of June 2011, an international conference on cross-cultural teaching about intercultural and religious issues will take place at Notre Dame University in Beirut.
The conference is part of Adyan Understanding Program, an intercultural project gathering partners from Lebanon, Jordan, Poland, Italy and France and organised with the support of the Anna Lindh Foundation, the UN Alliance of Civilisations and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung. The overall objetive of the program is the development of a better mutual understanding regarding the cultural dimensions of religious issues between and within Arab and European societies, through fostering Cross-Cultural Teaching About Religous issues in youth education.
The conference will feature speakers and experts from over 22 countries, and will included a number of discussion panels among which; the Arab uprisings and the challenges for diversity, cross-cultural education and methodological challenges, interfaith dialogue and education on religions, diversity and its role in peace building, and ways to manage global and local diversity.
Furthermore, the project will feature the development of an online portal , providing e-courses as well as teaching and training resources on the themes of 1) Christian diversity in the Middle East, 2) Intercultural and Interreligious dialogue and 3) Muslim diversity in Europe. The target group of the project is young leaders and multiplier who will integrate the concept of CCTR in their practices. The activities include the conception and construction of the adyanonline portal, the creation of the teaching and training resources under the supervision of the scientific board of the project, developing pilot courses, training of facilitators and a final conference on CCTR concept.
