The National Trust of Slovakia is the Head of the ALF Slovakian Network. The mission of the NGO National Trust of Slovakia is to secure the permanent protection of national heritage sites, valuable historical objects and sites of natural beauty and their preservation for the benefit of Slovakia and its people.

Beyond that, the National Trust organizes exchange programs, works in the on-site reconstruction of historic objects and publishes OKNO ("window") – a magazine about historic environment.

Since January 2003, The National Trust of Slovakia is the seat of the Secretariat of the European Network of National Heritage Organizations. As a member of both the International National Trust Organization and a domestic platform of heritage NGOs called DOMOVINA – "homeland" - the National Trust is an ultimate connecting point between national and international heritage organizations.

The Foundation provides logistical and operational support to the National Network in Slovak Republic through the Network Strategic Development Scheme (NSDS). For more information, please refer to the document “NSDS Step 4” under Resources column on the right. This document highlights the main responsibilities and services to be provided by the Network Coordinator for the members until 31 August 2011.

To date, the Slovak network includes 23 members. Most of these institutions work in the areas of heritage, arts, youth, gender studies, education and research.

Meeting of 4 Regional Networks

From 28 April to the 1 May, EuroMed Award Winners ‘Combatants for Peace’ participated in the Slovak Network Common Operation which gathered members from 4 regional Networks including Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Austria and that will include a meeting of the Slovak National Network.

In the framework of the event, on 29 April, Sulaiman Katib from Palestine and Avi Yehoudai from Israel spoke at the international seminar “People in Dialogue”, sharing their experience with the public.

Slovak ALF Network – a spring full of expectations

The Slovak ALF Network, an enthusiastic community of 18 member organizations, has experienced unexampled activity in the last months: in the framework of the 1001 Actions for Dialogue Campaign, 9 projects have been awarded with a micro-grant and another 17 are in the process of labelling with the 1001 Actions label. The projects are as diverse as our civil society actors themselves: Arab and Slovak film festivals, a photo exhibition about Bosnian Roma, an informal, intercultural garden chat between Slovaks, Hungarians, Jews and Koreans in one of the famous “civil society districts” in Bratislava – all these are unique interpretations of what dialogue between cultures means.

The Head of Network – the National Trust – organizes its First Slovak workshop on the Call for Proposals on March 26. It is the first time this methodology is being presented in Slovakia, exclusively for Slovak civil society actors; the group of the first fifteen participants will consist mainly of Network members and, in a small part, of non-member professionals who are interested in the future dissemination of the CFP possibility.

On March 31, the Slovak Head of Network will present the Anna Lindh Foundation and it’s activity in Slovakia in a distinguished environment: on the Conference on the Year of Intercultural Dialogue organized by the Slovak Ministry of Culture. The Slovak ALF Network will have the chance to raise public awareness of the importance of intercultural dialogue projects, among such great personalities as is Mr. Ján Fígeľ, EU Commissioner for Education and Culture and Mrs. Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni of the Council of Europe.

On May 22, the Head of Network will organize the major Dialogue Night event of the Slovak 1001 Actions for Dialogue Campaign. The action with the title “Living, saying, sharing?” will bring Arab and Slovak students together in order to find out: Which are the tastes of life we share? Do we hear the same music? Do we tell the same stories?

The Slovak Head of Network is open to help any of its members or interested organizations to improve their project ideas, to plan and implement intercultural action and to find the necessary national or international partners. Please do not hesitate to contact us!
