Goethe-Institut is a non-profit cultural organization acting worldwide on behalf and with the support of the Federal Republic of Germany, and is the Head of the German Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation.

The Goethe Institut focuses on the promotion of the German language abroad, attempts to convey an all-round image of Germany and encourages international cultural cooperation – by means of providing information on German culture, society and politics, by creating and supporting cultural events and exchange as well as by offering learning and training opportunities.

The German network consists of 127 members. Most of these institutions work in the areas of youth, arts, democracy, international relations, gender issues, religious issues and research. The Anna Lindh Foundation has funded 11 projects involving German members.

On the evening of 18th June 2010, many hundreds of young Alexandrians and members of the international community in Egypt gathered in the famous Villa Antoniadis Gardens for a major cultural event supported by partners including the Anna Lindh Foundation and the Goethe Institute, and aimed at giving a voice to young people in the Region.

Upon the invitation of Dr Uwe Petry, Head of Network and Ms Bettina Schmidt, in charge of the organisation of this decentralized meeting, German members of the Anna Lindh national network as well as other organizations which had shown an interest in the work and objectives of the Foundation as well as in the specific topic of the coming campaign ‘1001 actions for dialogue’, were invited to attend
