The Algerian Anna Lindh Network is coordinated by Agence de réalisation des grands projets culturels (ARPC), affiliated to the Ministry of Culture. To date, the Network brings together more than 100 members.

In February 2006, the Anna Lindh Foundation coorganised with the European Movement International and its Mediterranean Committee, the Algeria Committee, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and its Arab Reform Forum the North-South Mediterranean Dialogue under the patronage of the Algerian president Bouteflika in Algiers. Around 400 civil society representatives from all over the Euro-Mediterranean region attended the Congress. The aim of the Congress was to bring the largest possible number of civil society actors from across the region together for discussions on possible joint projects and modalities to foster cooperation between the northern and the southern shores of the Mediterranean Sea.

The Algiers Declaration for a Shared Vision of the Future focused on the promotion of information based on an ethical approach fostering dialogue and knowledge of cultural diversity, acting in favour of equitable and inter-cultural education, promoting professional training and academic exchanges, promotion of a different vision of migration issues in North-South and South-South relations, promotion of the active participation of Civil Society in the political and decision-making processes, and promotion within the Euro-Med Region a dialogue between all citizens as carriers of specific values and cultures.

Indeed, from writing and painting to music and theatre, it seems evident that a large number of Algerian NGOs and associations involved in dialogue work at the grass-roots level recognise artistic creation and exchange as a tool for promoting dialogue across communities as well as a forum through which social issues can be raised and addressed. One of the actions funded by the Anna Lindh Foundation in the framework of the 1001 Actions Campaign in 2008 is the artistic festival les nuits de la saoura organised by the Algerian member Hillal de la Saoura and the French association ‘Nuits Métis’. The project takes place in the middle of the Algerian desert with social workers, artists and tourists who gathered with local inhabitants of the Beni Abbes oasis to exchange knowledge, create activities and enjoy artistic performances from diverse musical and cultural heritages.

One of the honourary runners-up of the First edition of the Euro-Med Dialogue Award is Mrs Assia Djebar, an Algerian writer who explores the struggle for social emancipation of women in the Muslim woman's world in all its complexities. She received the Peace Prize of Frankfurt International Book Fair in 2000 in recognition of her commitment for democratic renewal and peace in Algeria and for understanding between cultures. For the second edition 2007 Mrs Wassyla Tamzali, a renown writer and activist for women rights received an honourary mention.
