The Getty Foundation fulfils the philanthropic mission of the Getty Trust by supporting individuals and institutions committed to advancing the understanding and preservation of the visual arts locally and throughout the world. Through strategic grants and programs, the Foundation strengthens art history as a global discipline, promotes the interdisciplinary practice of conservation, increases access to museum and archival collections, and develops current and future leaders in the visual arts. The Foundation carries out its work in collaboration with the Getty Museum, Research Institute, and Conservation Institute to ensure that the Getty programs achieve maximum impact.

CONSERVATION GRANTS
Following a recent strategic planning process and in anticipation of our 25th-year anniversary in 2009, the Getty Foundation has revised its funding priorities and strategies in the area of conservation.
The general approach is to shift resources from ongoing grant categories to more targeted special initiatives focused on a specific issue or region, and carried out in collaboration with the other Getty programs--the Getty Museum, Getty Research Institute, and Getty Conservation Institute.
Getty Foundation has recently launched two new Special Initiatives in conservation focused on panel paintings and on mosaics in the Mediterranean region. Information on these initiatives will be available on its redesigned website later this year.
