Founded in 1997 the Daniel Langlois Foundation for Art, Science, and Technology is a private, charitable organisation with an international scope.
The Foundation aims to further human knowledge by supporting artistic, scientific and technological research. Revealing the interdependency between ourselves and our omnipresent technological environment is at the core of the Foundation’s questioning.
The Foundation seeks to bring art and science closer together within a technological context on two levels: first, by nurturing a critical awareness of technology’s impact on ourselves and on our natural and cultural environments and second, by promoting the exploration of aesthetics reflecting the environments that we shape. The Foundation also seeks to promote the emergence of knowledge founded on local practices that contribute to the growth and well-being of people in their communities and environments
Grants
The Foundation has established an excellent reputation because of the rigorous method by which it selects projects that will benefit from its support. Generally, all projects are chosen by committees or a jury composed of key Foundation personnel and external experts.
The Foundation’s activities and grants vary greatly, as illustrated by statistical data on the Foundation since its inception.
From 1997 to 2007, the Foundation analysed and evaluated 2,287 projects that conformed to its program parameters. After analysis and selection through the jury process, 157 of these projects were retained and received funding from the Foundation.
Although Canada and the province of Quebec have received the larger share of funds, a number of other regions and countries have also benefited from the Foundation’s support
As of January 2008, grants for the Foundation’s programs have been allocated until the end of 2008 and their beneficiaries have been notified. The Foundation will not consider further grant requests before 2009.
