Available scientific data indicates that sharks in the Mediterranean are generally declining in abundance, diversity and range and are possibly facing a worse scenario than shark populations elsewhere in the world. Increasing public awareness by the education and the knowledge about the presence and types of shark species and their importance to sustainable ecosystems is one of the main measures of any shark conservation plan. This goal can be achieved only by correctly informing public about sharks, their status, their need of protection and about what each person can do to help them.
