Children's Literature - Background

OUR FOCUS:

“Children Literature “books” in the heart of the programme as a tool for promoting diversity, intercultural dialogue, tolerance among children”

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME:

Overall objective of the programme:

  • Strengthen the intellectual, spiritual, moral, social and emotional development of children in the MENA region.

Specific objectives

  • Increase the access and availability of quality children’s literature in the MENA region.
  • Increase the production and use of children's literature with a human rights perspective, a cultural diversity perspective, and the perspective of the child.
  • Increase the dialogue between MENA countries as well as with the EU, in the field of children's literature and reading promotion.

Main strategies and principles:

1. Promotion of books

  • Promoting Children Literature and reading in five Arab countries (Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria)

2. Capacity building

  • Building the capacity in strategic Planning for stakeholders and institutions working in the same field and sharing the same vision in each of the five countries

3. Networking

  • Creation of local and regional networks of stakeholders involved in books and reading in the five countries
