Inter-religious Meeting in Tirana

Tirana Meeting

From the 27th to 28th of October 2009, the Anna Lindh Foundation gathered civil society representatives from across the Union for the Mediterranean region to exchange ideas and good practices in the fields of education, inter-communal harmony and the role of religious leaders and practitioners in relation to inter-religious coexistence.

Organized in partnership with the Head of the Anna Lindh Network in Albania – the Albanian Forum for the Alliance of Civilizations – the seminar has been a key meeting in the preparation programme for the ‘Anna Lindh Forum 2010’.

The seminar in Tirana was officially inaugurated on the morning of Tuesday 27th October by His Excellency Dr Bamir Topi, President of the Republic of Albania, Mr Andreu Claret, Executive Director of the Anna Lindh Foundation, and Mr Mustafaj Besnik, Director of the Albanian Forum of Civilizations.

Following the opening, participants in the meeting were involved in roundtable discussions on the themes ‘Education and Religious Diversity’, ‘Civil Society and Inter-Communal Harmony’ and the ‘Role of Religious Leads and Practitioners’, with a focus on developing recommendations for topics which were addressed at the Anna Lindh Forum in March 2010.
