In view of the recent changes and the democratic process taking place in the Arab World, the Anna Lindh Foundation launched the 'Arts for Social Change' initiative, which aims to encourage local organisations to implement projects using arts as a tool for change and development.
A call for co-organised activities was sent among Egyptian NGOs, members of the ALF Egyptian National Network or willing to join the Network. Among a total of 20 applications, the Foundation selected 3 projects for their artistic quality and their relevance with the initiative. In addition to these activities, the Spanish Embassy in Egypt proposed 2 events which were added to the programme of the initiative.
The three selected activities are taking place in Alexandria between 22nd and 30th October 2011.
To achieve the needs of the artists who want to play an influential role in the democracy change, increasing awareness and civil participation, but because the lack of communication between artists and the public street people and there is no clear ways to work by. This program seeks to fill this gap of distance between them through the establishment 2 workshops with a part of the training between artists and people in the street together to formulate and drafting an artistic experience to be presented in one interactive event in the Street.
The Arab Origami Festival proposes to take the visitor into a journey through the Origami arts and values. Origami is a Japanese ancient artistic technique based on paper folding. It is nowadays known worldwide, and sees a strong development in Egypt and the Middle East. The Festival, combining workshops, lectures, small performances and film screenings, will take place on Friday 28th October, between 1pm and 7pm, at Saint Gabriel School, in Sporting area, Alexandria.
The "FORUM" will facilitate a space of exchange and experience sharing between young Egyptian Musicians. Young emerging / amateur Egyptian Musicians will have the chance to perform on the first day of the Forum and be exposed to the large number of audience.
