"Religious Diversity at Euro-Mediterranean Schools": A three days teacher training in Beirut

From 27 to 29 May 2009, the Anna Lindh Foundation will organize in Beirut a three-day teacher-training workshop, in partnership with the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO, Head of the ALF Network in Lebanon.

Through this workshop, the Foundation will present its newly developed teaching recourse " How to cope with diversity at school: teaching and learning about religious diversity" and will prepare a core group of multipliers in the field of religious diversity education.

The workshop will gather participants from twelve different Euromed countries, including Cyprus, Greece, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, France and Belgium.

The teaching resource "How to cope with diversity at school: teaching and learning about religious diversity", is targeting students aged from 14 to 18, and aims to promote a better understanding of cultures and traditions different than their own, with a specific focus on the promotion of religious diversity.

The book, composed of 12 units dealing with themes as art, clothing, food, language, media, etc., is one of the important aid for teachers and educators from various parts of the Euro-Mediterranean region who seek to develop among students and young people, an appreciation of the religious diversity of the region.

During the workshop, teachers and educators will be trained on how to use this resource; increase their knowledge regarding religious diversity in the Euro-Med region and the challenges it poses; exchange know-how and feedback concerning the use of the resource in the classroom in light of the specific national and regional contexts of the teachers; and develop a team of Multipliers in the field of Religious Diversity Education.
