More than 200 persons at the opening of Rima Maroun's exhibition in Beirut

Date:
15 Jun 2009 - 25 Jun 2009

Winner of the Anna Lindh Foundation's Euromed Award 2008, Rima Maroun, is displaying her winning works during a photo exhibition in Beirut from 15 to 25 June 2009.

The opening of the exhibition, held under the auspices of the Anna Lindh Foundation and the European Commission Delegation in Lebanon, was attended by over 200 persons including diplomats, ambassadors, artists as well as young fans of the Lebanese photographer.

During the exhibition, Rima will present her photo project "Murmures", which was awarded by the Anna Lindh Foundation last year. Murmures was produced by the Lebanese photographer in the aftermath of the war on Lebanon in 2006. In reaction to the violent images of Lebanese children that were circulated by the Media during this war, the project "Murmures" aimed to provide another vision of Lebanese children in Southern Lebanon.

Commenting on Rima Maroun's work, the ALF Executive Director, Andreu Claret, said: "The project Murmures reflects a great artistic sensibility that aims, from one side, to deal with the issue of violence, and from the other side, to express the hopes of the Lebanese society and specially children".

Following a series of exhibitions held in Nice, Naples and Budapest, the Anna Lindh Foundation looks forward to " invest in more activities in Lebanon, considered as one of the more strategic countries of the region, due to its diversity and democratic character" said Andreu Claret.

In recognition to Rima Maroun's important work promoting better understanding among people of the Mediterranean region, the exhibition was attended by Patrick Laurent, Head of the EC Delegation in Lebanon, Salwa Saniora Baasiri, Head of the ALF Network in Lebanon as well as Antoine Menassa, member of the ALF Advisory Council.

Exhibition open until 25 June, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
