Awarding Ceremony of the Winners of the Euro-Med Award for the Dialogue between Cultures

Winners of the Euro-Med Award

On 26 November 2007, the Winners of the Euro-Med Award for the Dialogue between Cultures ex-aequo: Mrs. Rodi Kratsa Tsagaropoulou, First Vice President of the European Parliament, and Vice President of Ad-Hoc Committee for Women’s Rights in the Euro-Med Parliamentary Assembly and Mr. Jan Willems, Artistic Director and Programme Designer of Theatre Days Production, were bestowed the trophy in a prestigious ceremony held to honour their achievements and proactive role they are playing in favour of gender equality which is the 2007 theme of the award "Women and Men Hand in Hand for Gender Equality".

The ceremony was presented by the Super Star, Mr. Samir Sabry at the Hambra Hall, Intercontinental City Stars Hotel with the honourable participation of a large number of diplomats, prominent intellectual political figures, heads of the 37 Euro-Med National Networks, members of the Egyptian National Network in addition to outstanding figures from international organizations working in the field of gender.

The ceremony began with a welcome speech by Ambassador Lucio Guerrato, Executive Director of the Anna Lindh Foundation followed by the speeches of Mr. Michele Capasso, Director of Fondazione Mediterraneo, Dr. Zeinab Radwan, Deputy President of the Egyptian People’s Assembly who bestowed the trophy to Mr. Jan Willems, who also gave a remarkable speech about gender equality achieved in his work.

The second part of the ceremony was the bestowing of the second winner: Mrs. Rodi Kratsa who gave a notable speech on the importance of gender equality and the European Year of Equal Opportunities of All. Mrs. Kratsa was bestowed the trophy by Dr. Botros Botros Ghali, Former Secretary General of the United Nations and the Director of the National Council of Human Rights in Egypt.
