Combatants for Peace (CFP) acts both in Palestine and Israel, while basing its activity on 3 bi-national groups, located in different areas in the West Bank. Each of these groups is in itself an example of Israeli-Palestinian partnership which acts as a regional base for various activities. These activities include tours, which expose Israelis to the realities of the occupation in the West Bank; house meetings, which are held frequently and serve CFP as a main tool for conveying its message to both publics, protest actions and peace rallies, which bring together Israelis and Palestinians, enhance solidarity and promote mutual trust and more. Special public events, such as the Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day, offer an alternative to the violence through sharing the pain for all victims of the conflict.
Combatants for Peace promotes a peaceful solution through dialogue and non-violent means. House meetings are the main tool by which CFP conveys its message to the Israeli and Palestinian publics. Over the last years CFP members have held hundreds of such meetings, aiming to familiarize people with the ‘other,’ and thus attempting to reverse the process of de-humanization of the "enemy". In addition, we organize tours, aiming to expose the situation in the West Bank to Israelis, who, for the most part, are unaware of Israeli policies and their implications on the lives of the Palestinians.
CFP operates 3 local bi national groups, which are run as autonomous units within the movement, each serving as a local platform for activities in the region in which it operates. The existing groups will maintain their activity and seek to stabilize themselves in the near future. Two new groups shall be established by the end of July 2009 and another two in early 2010.
Various joint actions are held by CFP in which Palestinians and Israelis work hand in hand against oppression. Such actions include olive harvests to help Palestinian farmers who have limited access to their fields due to Israeli settlements or military presence; removal of road blockages that tears the Palestinian villages apart; assistance in re-building demolished houses, etc. We intend to initiate and carry out such actions more frequently, thus enhancing trust and solidarity between Palestinians and Israelis.
The approach taken by the members of CFP has proven itself effective. The organization grew stronger even as two bloody wars stirred the local atmosphere, pushing many to the ultra-nationalistic aggressive path of hatred. In fact, following the recent Israeli attacks on Gaza, CFP members have heightened the activities, and are more determined than ever to establish an Israeli-Palestinian dialogue.
