The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) is a directorate under the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). The purpose of Norwegian development cooperation is to contribute towards lasting improvements in economic, social and political conditions for the populations of developing countries, with particular emphasis on ensuring that development aid benefits the poorest people.
Funding shall be used for international non-governmental and multinational organizations and networks involved in long-term development-oriented activities, primarily within the following thematic areas: health, with emphasis on reproductive health, including HIV/AIDS; the environment, including biological diversity; governance, including democratic developments; and human rights. Funding for organizations and networks involved in peace-building, education and sports may also be considered.
