The British Council is the United Kingdom’s international organization for educational and cultural relations and is the Head of the British network of the Anna Lindh Foundation. Its purpose is to build mutually beneficial relationships between people in the UK and other countries and to increase appreciation of the UK’s creative ideas and achievements. It operates in 110 countries with over 7,000 staff. The British Council operates in four areas; intercultural dialogue, climate change, the knowledge and creative economies and Europe and the world. The British Council has offices in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and the other 36 members of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership.
To date, the UK network includes 29 members. Most of these institutions work in the areas of education, youth, democracy, arts, international relations, human rights and gender issues. Several members are “portal” members and link their networks to the ALF. In total over 1,000 organizations and individuals know of the ALF’s activities in the UK on a regular basis.
