The Arab Academy, Head of the Syrian Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation, was created in 1919 with the mission to promote the use of Arabic language in all aspects of life – be it education, scientific publications and official documents. As a member of the Union of Arab Academies in Cairo, the Academy is closely following scientific development in the world and particularly in Arab countries and seeks for the proper arabic terminology needed for the modernization of Syrian society. At the same time, the the Academy emphasizes an awareness of the past: by fostering interest in arab-islamic heritage and research related to manuscripts and historical documents.
The Syrian network includes 62 organizations and 1 individual member. Most of these institutions work in the areas of arts, heritage, environment, religious and gender issues.
